Pros

Access to great healthcare plans. Retirement matching. Paid holidays. Night-time differential pay. Nurse on campus.

Cons

Lots of bureaucratic red tape. Been on a pay freeze since 2010. This means little/no pay increases, no money to hire necessary employees to complete work, no overtime available.

Seasonal Customer Service Rep (CSR) GS-5

Pros

Benefits are good as long as you are classified as a "permanent" employee. Some seasonal positions are considered permanent so IRS continues to pay the employer's portion of your health insurance coverage when you are "furloughed" after tax season ends.

Cons

This is a telephone contact job which is excruciatingly micro-managed. Employees are constantly critiqued, not only by immediate supervisors, but also by quality reviewers. Every phone call is recorded and the recording continues even when a customer is placed on hold while their account information is researched. The phone system is very poor causing calls to be frequently disconnected. Customers are on hold in the queue for 45 minutes or longer before they reach the CSR so they are angry and frustrated when you answer---and the calls just keep coming in with little or no down time!

Pros

Professional personnel. Collegial atmosphere. Good training with open management. Career path clearly understood, and promotions, for the most part, based on merit, not favor.

Cons

Non competitive pay scale. Budget cuts have destroyed morale. Lack of new equipment and facilities are old, tired and run down.
