Pros

Working for the government has good benefits like health insurance and the TSP match. At the IRS I get to help explain things to people. It's almost impossible to get fired.

Cons

Congress had gutted the budget. Our workload has increased while hiring has decreased and no retirees are getting replaced. Management doesn't care and does nothing to show appreciation or understanding of our situation. Advancement doesn't exist.

Pros

As a seasonal employee you will usually have the summer off. This can work out well if you have children. Excellent benefit package including paid federal holidays. Excellent training.

Cons

The potential to transition from a seasonal employee is almost non-existent. You are constantly monitored and evaluated. The laws and rules can change constantly. You must precisely follow the script and procedures.
