Pros

There are some nice people working there

Cons

The management is out of touch, rarely in the office, and making knee jerk decisions, based on flimsy or flat out wrong information, in an attempt to appear in control. There is no proper training in place for anything other than the product itself. New hires should be on guard from those who are training them and watch for attempts at sabotage and undermining your success. The office location is also a negative, public transit is very limited and there are very little in the way of food options close by. The pay is very low and the expectations are very high.

I am sorry to hear that you didn't have a positive experience while working with us. Unfortunately, you were only with us for a short time and perhaps missed an opportunity to experience more positive aspects of our leadership and work culture at IXL. For example, we just hosted a fantastic week of workshops for the development team. Engineers, PM's, Designers and QA team members formed new ways of working together, aligned on our product vision and organizational objectives, and had an opportunity to hear from our CEO, COO and other leaders. I do wish you all the best in your next career endeavor.

Pros

Projects got canceled very frequently. No work to do for a long time.

Cons

No food, below average salary, and the CEO continuously change his mind to cancel big projects. All my nice colleages left the company.

Pros

Your co-workers are awesome. The company has great events and some of the competitive benefits they employ to engage with Ivy Leage talent trickles down to the rest of the staff.

Cons

Routine, mysterious mass firings. I saw this happen four times in my year and a half there, and each time the firings gutted departments. They treat full-time employees like contractors -- use until not necessary, and then fire immediately. They started an NC office for the lack of labor laws and the ability to offer non-competitive salaries compared to other locations. They take full advantage of both of those factors. COO is incredibly petty. Employees have to fight for basic equipment that is necessary to complete their job. Are you an engineer? Don't assume you'll have a second monitor! IXL tries to fails to cultivate buy-in from it's employees. Some of the lower level management is great, however, it's hard for employees to feel engaged when they are constantly treated poorly. Multiple departments changed their payment basis from salaried to hourly, negatively effecting morale, some people get laptops, less important ones get notebooks, etc. All of the above is SOP for IXL Learning.

Yes! Our people are awesome and one of the reasons we opened an office in Raleigh is to draw on the great talent pools in the area without having to engage in bay area talent wars. We aren't perfect but we do our best to offer competitive salary and benefits as well as a fun office environment. And just to set the record straight, it's a federal law, otherwise known as the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), not companies or managers, that determines whether positions are considered hourly or salaried. Companies are required to comply with FLSA or be fined. I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy your time with IXL and wish you the best.
