Pros

As a Business Analyst Contractor, I was able to find experts in different arenas that helped me do my work well. Management in my area were able to make decisions and not slow the project down by bad decisions. Many contractors did great work.

Cons

As there are great Employees, there are bad employees. I had to review many times the work done by different "Expert employees". This was not productive since there should be a high percentage of accurate information. But I saw that it was a 50/50 chance that the information was correct. There are groups of employees that have big egos and slow down the project by bulling people around for their own personal gain. I am glad that I was able to work well with them anyway. As for contractors, there was some dead weight, but not as bad as Employees. Over all, in mid Management I found many great managers that care. I did not see the same for upper management

Pros

Excellent health benefits and perks, tuition reimbursement, formal review/merit increase process, opportunity for advancement, good work / life balance, competitive commission

Cons

Bad at communicating company news to emploees; news usually first makes it in the press. Very slow to change and respond to the competition

Pros

Environment is open and friendly - Working in HR, I have seen associates leave thinking "the grass is greener" elsewhere, and many re-apply, hoping to come back to IBC. Although our tuition reimbursement program has recently been scaled back significantly, there is a dedicated effort to invest in employees' growth - through formal training and informal programs (mentoring, cross functional work teams, etc.). We also have a strong community presence and corporate social mission where volunteerism is applauded, valued, and recognized.

Cons

We have been an employee driven culture to a fault at times. As we shift to a customer driven environment - I hope some of the entitlement will diffuse. We also have an opportunity to drive a true pay for performance compensation model - where distinguished associates are compensated as such - and there is a truer incentive to outperform others. Today, we focus more on collaboration than healthy competition.
