Pros

Some of my colleagues were great to work with. Work-life balance was good most of the time.

Cons

Low compensation compared to market. No bonus. Average benefits. Little to no opportunity for advancement. Disorganized and unprofessional hiring process, both internally and externally.

Pros

Helping patients to heal was rewarding. Christmas parties were enjoyable. Considered some coworkers friends. Went on to find a job elsewhere for IU Health and was happy with that.

Cons

Was hired for an 8-5 job that turned out to be require being at work starting as early as 5:15AM and leaving as late as 8PM. Was told it was a “family,” but most toxic workplace I have experienced. Staff meetings were a 1-3 hour event used to lecture and attack staff in front of the others. Extreme micromanaging where staff were told not to make decisions themselves, but when staff asked questions these questions were met with eye rolling, sighs and “I have to do everything around here.” When staff stood up for themselves concerns were dismissed and staff were accused of creating tension. Also would refer to these employees as defiant or “not team players.” Staff were asked “did you have a good day off while I was here working” framed as a joke if they took PTO. Staff were made to feel guilty should they refuse to come in on scheduled days off to work and rarely took PTO. Cultivated an environment of fear with high turnover and a core group of staff who remained because they were desensitised or scared of finding a worse job elsewhere. Attempts to report toxic workplace were dismissed and no response was ever obtained from multiple anonymous workplace surveys. Staff were scared to report actions further up to chain due to fear of backlash for themselves or their coworkers to experience a more hostile environment. Writer was denied an exit interview.
