Pros

Benefits and PTO are amazing. Flexible work environment in my department (public health), hybrid schedule with 3 in office two at home, and you don't have to request to use PTO in advance you just take it.

Cons

I get paid very little yet I hold a masters degree. I live pay check to pay check on a salary paying job. I have a massive work load and am fully taken advantage of. There is also no room for growth, pay increases, or promotions.

Pros

Can get your hands on a lot of equipment and work on a lot of shows.

Cons

Anyone who works hard and bends over backwards to make the shows successful will be punished. This is a cutthroat work culture where schmoozing and butt-kissing are heavily rewarded in comparison to knowledge, experience, and ability to make technological miracles happen week after week. You will not be paid well. You will not have people invest in the equipment you need to succeed. And you will get used to a revolving door of coworkers, for good reason.

No consequences for bad managers

Pros

Retirement, health insurance, and other benefits are generous

Cons

Lots of pay inequity, bad managers forcing mass turnover, poor hiring decisions (incompetent or underqualified individuals hired into senior positions) and an HR department unwilling or unable to step in to help staff. Messaging seems to be, if you don't like it, find another job.
