What once was great is rendered small

Pros

InnovAge provides the unique opportunity to work with an organization and gain experience within a reality and population unlike any other. You will come to know people with crippling diseases, disorders and disabilities who will all touch your heart. Some of whom have come to peace with their situation and others who test all of your patience. They don’t always cooperate, but the greatest reward is functioning to improve the lives of others. You will be paid too of course. They offer decent health insurance, dental, 401k and match a few % after a few years of dedicated self-sacrifice.

Cons

What started out as a really great opportunity has been unmasked like a scooby doo ghost. Revealing the creature we are all too familiar with that favors quantity over quality yet demands both. Cutting corners at the comfort and expense of it’s greatest assets, their staff and participants, Innovage creates a potentially dangerous scenario for such a fragile population. Many team members are incredibly overloaded. The company has lost sight of the previous mission before becoming a growth-focused money machine. It was a great(er) place to work before the for-profit switch.

Great company vision, too much management

Pros

When you get to really help a participant out and you see the company vision of helping seniors to maintain their independence in action. It is nice to work in healthcare but not work on Saturday or Sunday and have major holidays off. No "on call time" for unless you are a physician. No expectation to work overtime, in fact that is discouraged. The company model includes an interdisciplinary team approach to working with participants and caring for their specific needs.

Cons

Since the switch from non profit to for profit status many policies have changed and there seems to be a lot more paper work and regulatory "box checking " There is to much upper management and middle management. Management will make decisions that impact multiple disciplines, with out any knowledge of how this impacts direct patient care.

Pros

Beautiful, sunny, plant-filled buildings

Cons

A lot of churn in our department, literally always understaffed in our department and adjacent departments, necessary overtime, very high work volume. Missed opportunities to learn from employees who are subject matter experts.
