Pros

Free parking. Pay check came every two weeks. That’s all I can really think of looking back at the place.

Cons

“Leadership” (I say that loosely): A narcissistic CEO sets the tone for the entire company, surrounded by a bunch of Yes-Men. It is a very disingenuous, gloomy workplace – a bully culture that has only gotten worse since the company has gone public. In one big recent flap, an executive threw a “congratulatory town hall” lunch for employees, only to lay them off many of them a week later. Executives come from questionable backgrounds (one was sued by a former employer for breaking a non-solicitation agreement - public knowledge). Others flamed out of local businesses near DC/Baltimore only to find executive positions at Inovalon because their buddies packed the c-suite. Executives call low level employees like field collectors and call center reps “arms and legs.” Many of the executives have sold their stock during the quarterly trading windows, while the stock price now hovers around 52-week lows. Law firm sharks see ‘blood in the water’ in terms of potential securities fraud from the IPO. Client Delivery: Constant firefighting and kicking the can down the road comes from unrealistic leadership expectations. The company sells products that have not been rolled out yet or that serve no purpose in terms of HHS/CMS policy. Consistently behind in process deadlines, managers are forced to develop the “Inovalon Talk” to spin some way to fool health plans that it’s their problem that Inovalon cannot deliver on ROI projections. Clients pay for a BI software product that is either behind in reporting, not validated, or not verified by Product teams. Also, there are questionable HIPAA practices in the call center and other departments. Technology: The CEOs’ cheapness hampers any scalability. There is a fundamental misunderstanding about input capacity and resource management (the old fitting 10 pounds of cr@p in a 5 pound bag mentality). Going back to client fire-fighting, managers must prioritize which client complains the most to get their chart reviews fast tracked through the system. SQL and Excel spreadsheets are the only systems this company runs on. You are expected to be in the office every day to use your inadequate Microsoft 2007 desktop (work from home is only given to GM level and above). Laughable home grown CRM and shared drive systems compound the chaos. HR/Recruiting: Quite frankly the most inept HR department one could have. I personally reported a racial discrimination incident to a manager, and nothing was done about it. Utter abuse of the H1B visa program. Preference given to foreign nationals over US citizens in hiring, and often family members of visa holders are routinely hired in the same departments. Recruiters genuinely lie about the positions they market. Maybe performed 20% of my job description. No performance reviews/new employee pulse checks given (probably because the managers are so full of themselves that 360 reviews would embarrass them). No onboarding program – nobody is around to teach you about the products or how to perform your faux job description. Don’t let these good Inovalon reviews fool you, I bet its HR trying to pull up the ratings.

Pros

The hours are very flexible and there are times when you can work from home. If there is remotes to be completed you can also get overtime.

Cons

This position is part time and project based. You may go out to sites to abstract charts but they may be few and far between. No medical benefits.
