Pros

Fast paced environment, you work along-side very intelligent people and have the opportunity to learn, growth is there if you’re willing to work for it (meaning often times sacrificing any work-life balance) but limited to a certain degree.

Cons

Favoritism and political bureaucracy are very REAL here. You are more likely to be promoted if someone ‘likes’ you. Clear favoritism in many departments. New people are hired at an equivalent position as you but making more money. Morale is low across the organization. Zero work-life balance… ZERO! You burn the candle at both ends until you’re mentally tapped out. It’s frowned upon to let anyone know your workload is beyond the workload of 1 person (more like 2-3 people). No one cares as long as you’re deliverable are met… at any cost. Certain people in HR know what they’re doing and are responsive and some seem to have lost their mind already.

Learn a lot through trial by fire but not a good environment.

Pros

The ideals of the organization to use data to improve healthcare outcomes is laudable. Grown enough to be a publicly traded company.

Cons

They don't value employees. Everyone is readily disposable. Burn out level is high. The employee benefits are not great and are expensive.

Pros

Work from home, pays well. Good relationship with my direct supervisor. Although it's a Monday -Friday, 8-5 job, there is a bit of wiggle room if you need to take an hour or so off here and there as long as you can make it back up within the week. Personally, I've been treated fairly well and in the event that I have had issues, my supervisor has either assisted or gotten me in touch with someone who can help. Benefits for full time are decent.

Cons

Let me start by saying, this job is not for everyone. I was recruited over the phone and I would have never thought I would still be here years later. I started as a part-timer and went to full time about 2 years ago after my kids graduated. You MUST be a flexible person as this company changes policies and procedures often. They change vendors, they change personnel, and they LOVE their acronyms. It can be very confusing. The company was much different when I started here. Back then, it was called Medassurant and things didn't feel as high pressure as they do now. It may have something to do with it becoming a publicly traded company or new management. The company emails we get are so full of businesspeak doubletalk they are almost impossible to understand without an advanced law degree. There are a lot of distractions from the actual job of coding which can be frustrating. Productivity expectations are not realistic. People are working on different projects with charts ranging from 1 page to 200 pages so there is no way to set a uniform goal. As I stated, it's not a job for everyone and I can imagine that a new hire could easy find themselves overwhelmed. Maybe I am just used to it but it's worked out well for my family and me.
