Pros

The work is challenging, but my supervisor makes it worthwhile. She listens and is helpful to me. Most program directors were promoted from other positions in the company and that is a good thing. The pay has gotten better recently. We have a HR Department now and and a peer counseling program where we can bring complaints about work. The CEO is cool. I like that he comes to our work sites frequently to speak to people. A lot of companies won't do that. The work schedule is flexible and I can work from home if I need to, as long as I talk to my supervisor first. The CEO is black and most of the managers and directors are BIPOC. Before it was more white people.

Cons

The pay is better, but it needs to still come up some more. We need more help when working with the government. It feels like I have two supervisors sometimes and that can be confusing.

Pros

Working with dedicated professionals to help people lift themselves out of poverty and homelessness is incredibly rewarding. There is a sense of camaraderie and team work, staff support each other well. IW follows best practices for trauma informed care and programmatic interventions. The benefits package is excellent.

Cons

Compensation for some positions is on the lower end of the range for comparable organizations.

Pros

Cheap health insurance for employees working 30+ hours.

Cons

Management promises that you can create your own work schedule but if you ever cover a shift for someone, it becomes your shift. You cannot call out without finding coverage. You are expected to report to work even if there's a blizzard. If you're at work and there's a snowstorm, you can be stuck there for over a day until someone is able to relieve you. Management promises promotional opportunities to move from Coordinator to Case Manager but then hires outsiders to take the position from under you. I was physically assaulted by a client and the manager asked, "How could you have handled it differently?" rather than support me as an attacked employee. Compensation is very poor. Management is rarely there when Coordinators work and you're literally on your own for overnight shifts.
