Work-life balance difficult

Pros

Personal growth and professional development opportunities are many (at least in HQ), mostly everyone is a delight to work with, wonderful inspiring people who are truly motivated by clients and love what they do.

Cons

There is a lot of talk that compensation is low, it's difficult to move up, and work-life balance is hard to strike. Also that it can be too "top-down" from HQ to the field staff.

Pros

Wonderful work culture, your colleagues are there to provide support if needed. Great at sending to you in the field to get a better sense of on-the-ground programs (and this is a major plus because it gives you great insight as to how to effectively run programs within the 'real world' context). I was very impressed with everyone that worked there - you can't get away with working here with a poor work ethic. Dedicated, smart, hard-working people throughout. I was proud to work there.

Cons

Departments can be stretched thin in providing the needed support and training to new comers who may need that extra bit of attention when first starting out at the company. Burn-out (lots of requirements and not enough guidance to know that you're heeding them). Pay could be better, but then remember what you're working for and the % of resources that goes towards meaningful and much needed programs abroad.

Pros

Hands on experience, Great coworkers-everyone genuinely wants to bring change to the clients served, Compelling mission, As it has been around for years, it has good name in the humanitarian community,

Cons

Management is disconnected from what is really happening on the ground (intentionally or unintentionally) Very low pay Hierarchal and top-bottom management style No career development opportunity Most employees burnout that results in high turnover How the organization looks from outside and what it's inside is very different
