Pros

Once the organization offered a well-recognized name, stable work, reasonable pay, and solid benefits (including health insurance and a decent—though not exceptional—vacation package).

Cons

Unfortunately, that stability has disappeared. The company was first shaken by reduced government funding and later by a series of poor leadership decisions. In recent years, its vision has become increasingly disconnected from reality. Roles are often filled by individuals who are not fully qualified or the right fit, while highly skilled employees have been laid off through multiple rounds of cuts. This has caused morale and motivation across teams to drop significantly. The organization no longer feels aligned with the values it promotes, and its overall direction is unclear.

HQ does not live up to values espoused publicly

Pros

Good benefits, flexible hybrid schedule for staff who is not client facing.

Cons

Significantly underpaid at the local level; staff who have lived experience are often the least paid and most exploited; values espoused regularly by HQ for clients are not experienced by staff; leadership unwilling to deal with pending federal administration changes and plan accordingly until it's too late, and handled mass lay offs with secrecy and isolation; HQ propped up bad local leadership and refused to listen to staff experience and input, even when local leadership *literally* fell asleep on the job; certain operations/development staff deeply overworked

critical analysis of leadership

Pros

As others have said, the people are what make IRC so great. Meaning the colleagues and most managers. There is a level of true care among the IRC staff, whilst doing remarkable work, that I have not experienced before.

Cons

Complete and utter incompetence from leadership. The very privileged white faces at the top of the chart represent fabulous travel and fiscal irresponsibleness. Do they rely on outside, extremely expensive consulting firms too much? I would say so. It is tragic watching the top 1% run this organization recklessly, even before the new administration.
