Great place to learn

Pros

I gained so much experience during my time here and I'm thankful for the really smart people I got to work with and learn from. IM was and still is fun and exciting because the founders have crazy ideas that somehow work, and they do really encourage innovation and learning. It's a cool environment, and there were many opportunities for hands-on learning, at least when the company had fewer than 100 people. Leadership does a decent job of keeping employees focused on the mission or task at hand, even through times of uncertainty.

Cons

Salary did not reflect the level of responsibility. I was given new titles without corresponding compensation. With a couple of exceptions, senior leadership was often dismissive of women in technical roles. Every woman I worked with in engineering leadership eventually left and has since thrived elsewhere. Watching experienced women colleagues be talked over and ignored discouraged me from contributing as much as I wanted. I was sometimes treated more like administrative support than an engineer, which contributed to the culture feeling very male-dominated. I do think they are at least trying to hire more women - hopefully they hire more women engineers and are able to keep them around. I also noticed some inconsistencies in how leadership communicated with investors and partners, which at times raised questions for me about company stability. Some of these issues may have been due to normal startup challenges.

Pros

Lots of opportunities to learn something new.

Cons

Having to wear multiple hats with average to maybe below average pay. No real HR.

Pros

Former NASA engineers with lots of innovative ideas and goals. From the owners to new hires, everyone is valued and treated with respect. Owner take an interest in new employees and interns, and have regular conversations. Lots of transparency, even when things aren't going well. The honesty is refreshing! It's a growing company that finally has found it's footing with a number of products and new projects. They have promoted within based on proven performance and employee relationships. They do a great job of positioning people based on their talents and experience to be successful, while also allowing employees to pursue new interests or challenges within.

Cons

Fast growth can make it hard to meet new coworkers or build relationships. Can also affect company culture, diluting it a bit as new people come on board. A few bad contracts in the past and lack of direction resulting in layoffs and some drama at the tops. They made changes to improve, and things seem to be much better.
