Innovative ideas with no sense of strategy or organization

Pros

- Company mission and ideas are cutting-edge - Employees are invested

Cons

- I haven't seen any big picture strategy/direction/vision implemented - at least they have not communicated to the employees what it is - They have grown way too quickly in the past year to where they are underutilizing the talent of employees - Restructuring an organization is a necessary step for any company in a start-up environment but when roles and team objectives are constantly changing (a period of time where it has been on a monthly basis), it drastically lowers employee and team morale while simultaneously making it very difficult for any employee to actively deliver on projects and feel like they are accomplishing/contributing anything - Roles are not always well-defined nor do they set new employees up for success - Not a good place to be as a remote worker. Company gives preference and rewards folks for being in the office. As a remote worker you may feel like you are missing out

Pros

- You get to work on cutting-edge medical technology - There are some really smart, talented, motivated people in engineering working on some cool, novel problems in the CV/ML space - Compensation is very fair for a small startup in Boston (speaking as an engineer)

Cons

- Senior leadership is terribly micro managerial and inexperienced - Untrustworthy CEO tried to give us “bonuses” in the form of stock options that would vest in our fifth year of employment. When I requested cash instead he never delivered despite that it was guaranteed to be cash in my offer letter. - Senior leadership is too afraid to let teams fail and learn which inhibits growth and autonomy - There’s no strong product vision for non-ML engineering - Over-reliance on employees sourced from prestigious schools rather than ones with relevant experience - 30-minute weekly company-wide meetings where every single employee gives a status update are a waste of time and CEO consistently ignores feedback about it

Pros

Everyone is friendly and people work well with one another, communication within the company is surprisingly good considering the amount of scope each individual has to cover as a small company/startup with 15 on-site FTEs.

Cons

People transitioning from a larger company with well defined structure, silos and established processes might struggle to adapt to the flexibility required here, the same flexibility which is an advantage and keeps us quick on our feet often becomes a burden when you have too much on your plate but don't know how to prioritise it or where resources are best put inPeople transitioning from a larger company with well defined structure, silos and established processes might struggle to adapt to the flexibility required here, the same flexibility which is an advantage and keeps us quick on our feet often becomes a burden when you have too much on your plate but don't know how to prioritise it or where resources are best put in
