      Pros

      Employee benefits and retirement package. Flexibility.

      Cons

      Read any list of employment cultures to avoid and you'll check every box with this employer. In practice, the dept. is an after-thought to the college. A handful of good employees and a handful of poor ones yet no one in charge can identify who's who. The place is a vacuum of leadership. Systems are broken, marketing support is absent, and management is unqualified. Employee feedback is neither sought and, if offered, can put your future in jeopardy.

      Pros

      Pay is pretty good for part-time job. Free class each semester after one year of employment.

      Cons

      Completely incompetent boss (one over my immediate supervisor) who talks badly about her employees to their peers. Was interviewed and hired without ever speaking to HR, so I found out about benefits (discounts, etc.) little by little over time. Boss seemed to take pleasure in making her employees cry, especially one in particular who was more vulnerable. I've worked 1-on-1 with Fortune 10 executives, doctors, union workers and many other diverse people. Never came across anyone like her. And I'm not the first. From what I understand, others have complained, but nothing was done about it. Fortunately, my immediate supervisor was outstanding. Otherwise, I would have left sooner. Was planning on taking classes at Ivy Tech this year, but can't seem to stomach sending them my money.

      Great Work to Life Balance and Benefits

      Pros

      Ivy Tech has an awesome work to life balance. With generous amounts of paid time off, nice 401k contribution and educational opportunities for full time employees. The team I work for and with are great.

      Cons

      Pay is below average unless you are in the top management, raises aren't based on merit for the majority of staff. There doesn't seem to be a lot of room for advancement, the college is going through some restructuring challenges. Change only comes from the "top" down.
