      Great people to work with but the college is turning into something different

      Pros

      Great colleagues. Dedicated people who were there to help students grow and learn. All of the faculty I had the pleasure of working with were highly talented, well educated, and had a real gift for teaching. Most of the students were there to improve their lives, although the system was getting lax and letting in some freeloaders too. The overall mission of the college used to be terrific but it is changing. Compensation used to be great with extra summer pay but that has gone away due to budget issues.

      Cons

      Upper management feels like it does not owe the public any explanations about its choices, even though this is a state institution. College is becoming very corprotized, replacing chancellors, vice chancellors and deans with presidents and vice presidents. College is moving towards a corporate, for-profit like structure. I'm very worried about the people I left behind because management is leaving them all in the dark and surprising them with changes. The future doesn't look good for Liberal Arts faculty or any faculty who don't teach in the profitable academic areas. Upper management is really putting the screws to the poor faculty members who are still there (for now).
