Badly managed growth, unhealthy culture

Pros

Lots of interesting technical and market challenges. Very smart and capable technical staff. Willingness to try new approaches, among some of the technical staff, at least.

Cons

Poor internal communication Lack of understanding of what an engineering culture needs to be to make it a healthy environment Too much technical debt that's not being addressed effectively

Startup looking to become common market solution.

Pros

The people are great, the technology is top notch, and the potential is unlimited. Add to this, the perks and you get the complete package - a great place to work with lots of potential.

Cons

Although the old downtown Portland building is nice to look at, it is not very practical and consists of a lot of wasted space. In fact, the wasted space is a problem with regard to forcing the company to spread out across multiple floors rather than consolidate close by in a collaborative way.

Pros

There is no limit to your ability to change things given that this is a start-up. It is somewhat dichotomous that a company this small serves some of the biggest brands around. The pace can be fast but there is consideration/flexibility to ensure there is a work-life balance. From a career perspective, it helps that the company uses the latest tools and technology. There is a variety of positions available which makes it easier to move around to try different things. Being close to lots of food carts and the riverfront is nice too. Finally, the number of organic learning initiatives makes this a terrific place to work whether you are fresh out of college or are an experienced professional.

Cons

This is getting better but we need to keep improving our intake process so as to avoid too many surprises during the execution phases. People like our products and tools, so lets sell them confidently rather than trying to please everyone all the time. More celebration around team milestones will also make people feel included (given the number of new faces here, a byproduct of our growth).
