Merit has no merit

Pros

Good coworkers, mostly stable, interesting products

Cons

No technical career path, and it just got weaker with the re-org. Political operators thrive. No meaningful measures for poor managers. My manager told me my performance rating is based on negotiations with his boss. So my merit has no merit and my rating depends on his willingness (and ability) to argue with the person responsible for HIS performance rating. Grotesque.

Pros

Interesting and useful work. Many good people.

Cons

So bureaucratic you wouldn't believe it. Massive re-org and cutting lots of jobs when the company is profitable. May be OK once the dust settles.
