Pros

There were no pros in my experience with this company.

Cons

In September 2023, Johnson Controls was hit by a ransomware attack that resulted in data theft and disruption to its internal IT infrastructure, costing the company $27 million to respond and remediate. It is a security company with government contracts and couldn't even protect itself. A few days later, I was laid off - I had not even been there 1 year. (The manager who hired me was laid off 4 months after I started. ) The manager that I reported to was not even professional enough to tell me to my face as he and a HR person laid me off on a conference call.

Pros

Work-Life Balance: This is not a company that will make you work 60-hour weeks, at least for my position. You work during business hours, and only outside of that when something legitimately requires it. Good pay: I was paid a competitive wage for someone with my job at JCI. Plus annual bonuses, I was provided a living wage, and the ability to save and invest. Culture of Communication: You are able and encouraged to work across teams to accomplish goals. There is a vibrant social culture that makes it easy to find the people you need to talk to to get things done.

Cons

Poor Vision: JCI acquires a lot of startups, and the leaders fail to fully understand what they have bought or how to use it. Risk of getting siloed: Career growth can stagnate if you find yourself be to be one of the only employees capable of doing your job. They are not eager to cross-train. Culture of Blame: Failure is punished instead of learned from, so nobody takes responsibility for their failures, leading to an endless circle of finger-pointing. Sub-par Benefits: The health insurance leaves a lot to be desired. If you have a lot of medical needs, don't choose the high-deductible plan.
