Pros

Better parental leave policy than most pharma companies. Pay upon hiring is good.

Cons

Promotions & competition for roles dependent on time in J&J & who you know vs actual ability or potential to do job. Everyone touts years within J&J as a measurement of experience at beginning of every intro to isolate out new employees. What you’ve done outside doesn’t count towards your qualifications. Connected & networked employees spend 18 months in a role just enough to make superficial accomplishments then leave for next position/promotions. Meanwhile employees focused on actually doing the work or those who recently joined thinking they’ll have career advancement will struggle to get next position. It’s not fair hiring practices and you don’t stand a chance if you just apply to open roles. Don’t come thinking you’ll be able to move up after joining. Your merits don’t matter here it’s who you know and as a newbie you won’t know as many people.

Pros

The offered good pay and benefits as most any large company. It was rewarding working for a company whose goal was to improve the lives of people. This was the most diverse workforce that I have worked with in my career.

Cons

They are very large and overburdened with red tape, too many procedures to manage a single process, a lot of individuals that base their approvals on their own opinions instead of the requirements in the procedures. There was no HR on site, instead they direct you to access or call a remote group that was not very helpful. The company relies to much on contract workers so that it is hard to recruit and retain good employees. Upper management is focused on acquiring new companies and does a poor job of integrating and developing them.

Pros

* Really good benefits * Appreciate work/life balance * Great training * We treat people well. The credo is shoved down our throats to an annoying level, but it really permeates the company culture where everyone is treated with dignity and respect

Cons

* Perhaps as a counterweight to the benefits, the pay is a bit subpar compared to what can be earned elsewhere * Really inconsistent with job titles and promotions. There are a lot of senior managers with no direct reports, who don't have additional work to do but they keep getting promoted since people like them. And then some managers (junior to senior managers) overwhelmed with direct reports * Per the above, it's also inconsistent across different types of jobs (IT vs HR vs sales vs manufacturing, etc.) even in the same operating company. Some groups of employees in certain verticals are flat-out more valued. This may be my ego and bias but I feel IT is more difficult than most soft skills jobs yet we have less potential job growth than many others
