Small company, good projects, great team, BUT some issues.

Pros

The pay is good, very competitive for the area. Larger companies don't pay as well. Benefits are also very good. There are company sponsored lunches and outings. These are quite fun as I have been to a few. I attended almost every company lunch and there is catered food. Coffee and snacks are a plenty - FREE. Annual company sponsored dinner usually at an upscale location and annual awards. There is usually a generous bonus and/or gift in your goody bag - c'mon who does that these days.

Cons

Missing team spirit and company spirit. Most people I worked with simply came in for their paycheck, did their work but for the paycheck. Had too many managers and not enough people to manage - top heavy, way too heavy. There was some amount of favoritism, even though it will not be admitted this behavior was evident.

I think most people come to work to receive a paycheck. However most people here bring ingenuity and are constantly growing. I don't understand about being one of the rest of the team and come down from the ivory tower. I come to work every day, stay to the end of the day, and I even will take the trash out.

Pros

Decent pay. Some VERY solid consultants.

Cons

Nepotism at its peak and that is probably because its a small family owned business. Processes instituted are not adhered to by a certain few, primarily a consultant who also moonlights at the president of the company. The select few can do no wrong, these are the folks from the upper echelons of the company. If the upper echelons don't agree with you or your way of doing the job then you are talked down to leading to people quitting. There is a reason this company has a VERY HIGH staff turnover, especially in the Sales and Consulting groups - POOR management and unclear goals and expectations. The company needs to install a revolving door without a key fob so it makes getting in and quitting easy. Little to no management oversight so certain consultants take an 8 hour project and drag it to say 16-24 hours because billable hours are everything. Rather unscrupulous in my books.

This comment is very interesting. We are a small business and yes we are privately held company so I guess that means we are family owned pretty much like every other privately held company with a single owner. I don't think we have a high turn over rate, I think it is the same as other companies. The average tenure is 8 years and we have had individuals actually retire from our company. As far as unscrupulous, that is a little offensive. We are above board with all clients and the consultants estimate their work themselves. We haven't had a consultant resign in a while so I am assuming this person is from a competitor trying to make us look bad.

Great Ownership makes a Great Place to Work

Pros

Tim and Kim make the company work for the employees, and treat staff like family. It is a great learning environment, Tim is a hands off manager, so an employee can take the reins of an IT area of their interest (cloud, BI, databases, etc.) and become a Subject Matter Expert. This helps both the company and employee. They will really work with you around any issues that arise (and we all have issues, LOL) without you feeling that you are negatively impacting the company. One of the more technology savvy places I have experienced, co-workers all get along well and collaborate on solving client problems. Overall, great place to work with smart, motivated people.

Cons

None really, maybe communicate the strategy more frequently?
