Pros

Helping families get back together, flexibility, dress for your day, and benefits- 403(b), dental, medical, life insurance, paid time off. Supervisors are helpful.

Cons

The training was not the best. Trainings consisted of shadowing and looking at power points. Feels like I was just thrown in without being ready. Had to learn along the way. Working long, late hours. Working with parents that won’t do what it takes to get children back. Driving long hours and distances. Working with difficult children. Not enough worker and child interaction. Each month you have to work a 24/7 on-call shift.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on working at KVC. It’s true that the nature of child welfare work can be challenging as we are working with families in crisis. And in crisis, behavior can be difficult and cooperation lacking. Such frustrations are to be expected. Adequate training should also be expected and KVC recognizes that, while on the whole our employees are very well trained, there are specific areas of this large organization where improvements can be made. To that end, HR is working on a strategic plan to increase consistency and quality in training practices across all departments so that every KVC employee feels fully prepared for the important work that we do.

Thank you for your observations. KVC values you and the challenging, but important, work that you do. We recognize that consistent, supportive and knowledgeable supervision is a must to ensure that every KVC employee delivers the most effective care to the people we serve (over 60,000 in just the past year alone). We are pleased to report that HR is currently partnering with proven leaders in management training best practices to create a new and thorough training program for all KVC supervisors. This program should provide far greater consistency throughout the organization with regard to management practices.

Pros

Flexible schedule and that’s about it, you can make about 15-20,000 more working at a hospital or another social Work facility right out of school

Cons

Don’t expect to move up in the company. I have applied for a few positions within the company which I am fully qualified for the position and no more about the employees job I would be working with more than the person they put in that same position and didn’t receive a call or nothing. The person that they put in that position has not done a good job in the other positions within the company or office she was in charge of. They always say apply but then they always have someone lined up they want for that position. They will push people out just to put someone they like there no matter if that person knows what’s going on. You will be over worked and under paid 100% while the people in the big house make six figures you live paycheck to paycheck. Oh and just one more thing, the people that took over for the ones that were pushed out didn’t do a very good job and have been demoted and the company is on pins and needles to hopefully get their contract renewed and it bc they push so much stuff under the rug just to make their numbers look good.

Thank you for taking time to share your thoughts on working at KVC. We’re sorry your personal experience has been one of frustration. There are always a number of factors taken into consideration in any decision to hire or promote from within. Applicants can understandably find it frustrating when they aren’t aware of all those factors. We would recommend seeking feedback from the interview process to ensure you understand what areas of development you need for future opportunities. As a non-profit organization, KVC’s compensation is competitive within the industry. We recommend a discussion with your supervisor or HR if you have any questions about your compensation. We thank you for your hard work and dedication to the children and families served through KVC.
