Thanks for taking the time to write a review. We wish it were just a bit more specific about which location you worked in so we can make changes where needed. You mention that supervisors did not advise and support employees. Over the last year, we have put a lot of focus in this area. We now host quarterly retreats for all supervisors where we provide training as well as opportunities to build connections between different teams. Child welfare is a field that unfortunately always has high turnover, regardless of organization, but in 2017, we have seen our employee retention rate go way up. This is the result of focusing on "Making KVC a Great Place to Work" and "Providing Quality, Effective Services." We regret we weren't able to support you in a way that would make your want to continue working with KVC. Best wishes in your future!

Pros

Work the third shift you can sleep all the supervisors do so its no big deal. Oh, and if you forget something just use the kids stuff while they are sleeping. Supervisors do.

Cons

Unorganized, no accessible employee handbook, if you don't want to do an assignment just threaten to walk out and you won't have to do it. Dirty. 7-11 bathrooms are cleaner. Ghetto work environment. Kids are not held accountable for physical attacks on staff. Management is very young and unexperienced and untrustworthy. DANGEROUS work environment. 75 % of staff is unprofessional. Don't worry about following the dress code. People come in with wave caps on, flip flops, and yoga pants. Really its a free for all that gives you a paycheck.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your experience. Since you indicated you are a current employee, please know that you are empowered to speak up about any problems you observe and become an active part of the solution. Our programs are accredited by The Joint Commission, considered the gold standard in healthcare, and KVC is trusted on a daily basis to help thousands of children and families in crisis. Maintaining this standard means we need every staff member helping to ensure effective, quality services. While this website provides a channel for anonymous feedback, it is more effective if you speak with your supervisor, the HR manager, or the Senior Director of KVC Prairie Ridge (Derrick Hurst, dhurst@kvc.org). He is very interested in speaking to you to learn more. For several months, we’ve focused on addressing the many topics you mentioned. We’ve provided more support to our employees; increased administrative presence during evening, night and weekend hours; and increased the number of milieu managers. We’re also focused on training, engaging and retaining our staff who demonstrate compassion, innovation and skill in doing their job. While working overnight hours in a hospital is difficult and often uneventful, safety is our number one priority. Sleeping on the job is cause for immediate termination. The employee handbook is available on the shared drive as well as our intranet; every employee provides their signature at time of hiring and once each year to affirm that they know how to access it. We provide digital access to the latest version so everyone has easy access. We celebrate diversity among our staff and clients, and we also have high standards for cleanliness and professional values. We have a professional housekeeping service that keeps the campus clean, and we rely on our direct care staff to maintain that level of cleanness. We have had the privilege of employing hundreds of behavioral health technicians and other direct care staff over the years. The most successful ones take ownership of their role, are committed to learning and excellence, and leverage their position to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. It may encourage you to know that one of these former BHTs moved on to 20+ years of other leadership roles and is now our CEO, Jason Hooper. Thank you for taking the time to share and we hope you will join us in elevating our quality of care.

Pros

They concept behind the company is well meant.

Cons

High turn over rate. The rules are up for interpretation. They vary drastically from employee to employee due to lack of proper training. Not enough caseworkers to manage the caseloads. I still have not received my transportation check for the mileage I added to my vehicle while working there.

Thanks for taking the time to provide some feedback. We're sorry to hear that you had a negative experience in regards to your training, workload and the speed of mileage reimbursement. We are committed to making KVC a great place to work. Many people have a wonderful experience working here and stay for 10 years, 20 years or more. But when people don't have a wonderful experience, we want to know that too so we can learn and improve. Social work is an inherently challenging field with a turnover rate that is higher than some other fields. That said, we have made many improvements in the last 1.5 years and we've seen the impact of those changes as our retention rate has increased dramatically. We regret that these improvements didn't reach you before you moved on to a new role, but we wish you the best in your future.
