Pros

Very flexible, good starting pay, interesting people, students are great

Cons

The pay is low overall. The teachers teach out of a script, so there is little room for creativity. You're told that the are a teacher's customers at Kaplan. I don't agree with this view at all. The students are your students, but kaplan does not want you to think of them in that way. Kaplan is very corporate and is really just about making money.

Pros

Flexible work schedule. Rewarding work in helping others. Responsive and communicative senior management. Also, there is always constant feedback based on your performance and class reviews. This type of interaction truly helps with improving your skills and communicating better to a classroom. The Management is also eager to help employees advance their careers and participate throughout the company in different ways.

Cons

If you want an extremely structured work environment, this is not it. I enjoy the flexibility, but others may not. Also, as a part time employee there are no health benefits or vacation time befits provided, but this seems pretty standard from what I have seen and experienced.

Pros

If you are not one of the salespeople pushed to meet a quota for new students signed up, Kaplan iexcels in every other way, the teachers are compentent, well-credentialed, some are less than enthusiastic sometimes, but they are about 80% of the time great to learn from. Fellow students are pretty respectful and there is often a lot of camraderie that develops. EVEN PART TIME EMPLOYEES LIKE ME ARE OFFERED HEALTH CARE THROUGH AETNA, ALThOUGH IT CAN BE A BIT EXPENSIVE, IT IS NICE TO AT LEAST HAVE THE OPTION AS A PART-TIMER FOR COVERAGE, BOTH FOR MYSELF AND FOR MY SPOUSE!

Cons

I have been a Peer student Advisor for a year and they have not given me a raise even though I have high marks for performance. There is a lot of mid-and low-level turnover in employees, they often do not make clear when you can expect cost-of-living or merit-based pay increases.
