Pros

Brand: even if you worked in Research, you can leverage the brand.

Cons

The team in India operates in isolation, no direct opportunities to work on client projects (unlike competitors). Most management at India research unit have spent 10-15 years doing the same stuff, year after year, so are not open to ideas. Most good performers leave after 2 years whereas the politicians stay on so over time, its just the inefficient, petty people who have remained and by virtue of tenure sit at the top.

Pros

a.t. kearney provides in intellectually challenging work environment. colleagues will consistently test your thought process to ensure you've exhausted all avenues when thinking a problem through. this creates a forum for thought-provoking conversations which, more often than not, leads to provocative ideas and project breakthroughs.

Cons

at the time of my departure, leadership had recently transitioned and was looking to shift the direction of the firm in a major way. though it seems as if they may have righted the ship, the rollout of the new vision was very clunky fraught with misinformation and miscommunication. this caused a lot of confusion within the ranks and an exodus of a lot of good people, as well as unfair treatment of junior consulting staff. a very grueling and exhausting schedule. 3.5 years into it and i was physically and mentally spent mostly due to the long hours and travel. while this is typical of any top tier management consulting firm, it doesn't make it any less difficult. given the sweet spot that a.t. kearney has deep domain knowledge in - operations - the diversity of project work can be limited. if not careful, an individual can be pigeoned holed very early on, making it difficult to gain exposure to different areas.
