Pros

Interesting work that can have a meaningful impact on the lives of numerous people. Great place to learn the challenges and rewards of civil service

Cons

The beauracracy can be overwhelming, highly political, petty, and often times professionalism is lacking.

Pros

Superior benefit package - considered a component of your salary and is NOT taxed! Supportive of position moves within the County. They have preference for King County employees in the selection process. Multi-faceted organization doing a lot of good to serve King County residents and tax payers. There will be a place for you somewhere in King County.

Cons

FBOD- Finance and Business Operations Division discriminates against anyone who does not fit their very limited mold. If they discover the lack of fit after employment, rather than work to improve the relationship, they attempt to make life miserable enough for you to quit. On the job training is insufficient for optimal performance.

Pros

Work-life balance. Nice coworkers. Rarely required or expected to work > 40 hrs per week. Work duties are clearly defined. Well-defined pay raise progression. Good benefits including retirement.

Cons

The work itself can be pretty boring sometimes. Hard to grow/expand beyond your core skills. A bit of bureaucracy to get through. Some managers are very chain-of-command-ish; as in, you're not a boss, so you are not as important.
