Pros

pay, benefits, lots of paid time off

Cons

Poor management. Most managers have worked here so long that they have no idea how to be an effective, engaging manager. Most are only concerned with looking good to their bosses and have no idea how to lead a team of employees. Deemed a good employee if the work unit "gets no complaints" about you. Old school managers roll their eyes at lean and process improvement initiatives. To move up (promotion), you have to be liked and connected. Lots of lip service to lots of "values."

Pros

You can't beat the benefits. The pay is very good for administrative jobs, as well as professional positions. County offices are all around the county, not just downtown.

Cons

Bureacracy is rampant across the county. Thanks to lean and continuous improvement some progress is being made to eliminate unnecessary work. Lots of aging employees hanging on to keep their salary and benefits.

Cons

Backstabbing. To save money, required to use your own cell phone and do not get reimbursed for its use plus have to deal with the whole privacy issues of personal data and public trust data.
