Pros

Great pay, and benefits are awesome, 11 paid holidays a year. Was a mechanic flat rate for a private dealership, was working myself to death. Saw King county was hiring at an hourly rate, which is not standard for most car mechanics. Now have a higher hourly wage and guaranteed to get paid for the time I'm at work. They also have PERS 2 which is great, and offer additional deferred compensation plans through T.Rowe Price. So much happier and less stressed than with my old employer. If you don't like your job and want to move around in King county it is easy to do so.

Cons

24 hour operation, you will work graveyard when starting out until you get seniority. Work is pretty repetitive and not very challenging mentally.

Pros

Great peers. Strong benefits. Significant efforts and movement to be "best run government".

Cons

Still slow to action. Cross objectives in some areas. Too much overhead related to training and accomplishing multiple social and cultural goals that significantly reduce efficient use of resources and delivery of services (too many at one time that are slowly executed and not re-enforced or given an opportunity to become engrained in the culture).
