Pros

This is a great company to work for if you're looking to do a 9 to 5 with minimal stress.

Cons

There's not a lot of room for real career growth and the compensation is pretty bad.

Pros

- Fun and interesting work - Great coworkers - Excellent benefits package (generous PTO, flexible in-person/hybrid/remote) - Hourly pay - Low stress projects, strong work-life-balance - Relatively flat management hierarchy

Cons

- Compensation is on the lower side - Mostly government/federally funded work. Not necessarily a con, but could be depending on your preferences

Pros

• Smart and talented colleagues who are passionate about open-source software. • Flexible work hours and remote options available. • Interesting projects in visualization and data processing when you get the right ones.

Cons

Kitware has a lot of potential, but it’s held back by weak program management and a lack of clear strategic vision. Transitions between projects are a nightmare with poor handoffs and execution make everything feel chaotic and inefficient. Pay is below market rate, especially since most work is contract-based with federal caps that limit what you can earn, even for experienced devs. Travel compensation is terrible…you’re only paid for half your time when on the road, which adds up to a real financial hit. Some projects end up being boring with little input on assignments, and the culture feels stagnant with limited opportunities for technical growth or advancement. CEO Lisa Avila’s leadership contributes significantly to these issues, her approach often feels disconnected from day to day realities which comes across as unprofessional and erodes trust. Overall, there’s a sense that executive direction lacks the strong, supportive vision needed to guide the company effectively and keep talented people motivated.
