Load of anxiety

Pros

SOME people were nice to work with.

Cons

If you get an interview/offer for the Civil team in the San Diego office…RUN! The leadership for the civil team in the San Diego office is toxic! All what the leadership in the civil team offer for the employees is stress and anxiety. The civil team there is crumbling and it’s basically not a team, it’s every person by his/her own. It is all basically caused from the leadership of the team. It says a lot when a team leader belittles and humiliates the staff when they have a question and offers absolutely no guidance. To summarize things, 6 employees left the civil team in less than 2 years and I assure you at least 5 of the 6 left because of the leadership. The civil team in the San Diego office is basically a landfill for other teams there. If the water and/or bridge teams do no want to work on a specific project, they just throw it to the civil team there. So basically all the projects the civil team works on are small and under-budget project. Pay is extremely low with absolutely no bonuses. Hard work is not rewarded or appreciated.

Take the job for what it's worth

Pros

-Hire entry level with little to no experience (I was hired right out of college). -My office had good managers that were knowledgeable about the project. -Depending on which office, you get the opportunity to see a lot of different activities that might not be available elsewhere.

Cons

-Salary is not competitive once you've achieved 1-2 years of experience. My office had steady turnover at the 1.5-2 year mark as people could leave and get $10-15,000 more a year with very little effort to retain these employees. Raises were small if you got one at all. This is why my title says to take the job for what it's worth. It's great to get something on a resume, but the job simply isn't competitive on the market once you've got that. -Hire externally to fill positions. Management positions would occasionally open up but no one in house was ever seriously considered. I saw zero opportunity for career growth in the company long term. This coupled with the pay was ultimately the reason I left.
