Was Told "The ONLY Reason I Was Hired Was Because I Was The Only Person Who Could Start Before (Date)"
Pros
It was a decent first gig out of college, and provided me with decent insight to the field and field experience.
Cons
I negotiated working a hybrid schedule because I lived far away, that never happened. During the interview I explicitly asked about billable hours in the winter month and was told that there would be plenty of work. The entire late fall and winter was spent scraping the barrel and asking other departments if I could help because there was no work. There was frequent mention of trainings that I was supposed to go to that never transpired. I was put on a PIP and I religiously adhered to that plan, so much that I had a copy of it pinned to my corkboard so I could reference it at all times. I would ask how I could improve in the office and field and then utilize that information, trying to improve my performance, and then I was fired even though I had far above my profit ratio goal and was performing how they wanted based on the PIP plan. During the discharge meeting the higher ups said they had no mention of my improvements, meaning there was a severe lack of communication between my supervisors and the bosses. The PIP was supposed to have weekly follow up meetings, of which there were two in the subsequent weeks, and then they just stopped, so I stopped receiving formal feedback on my performance. I was having severe car issues at the end of my tenure, and despite me living an hour away and not being allowed to work a hybrid schedule, I found a way to get to work four out of the five days of the week, not being able to use public transportation. My determination to show up to work four out of the five days of the work week despite not having reliable transportation did not matter apparently, because a week after buying a car (of which they knew because I sent a formal email stating I had reliable transportation again) they fired me. The icing on the cake is the title. While out in the field with a supervisor, I was told the only reason they hired me was because I could start in the subsequent 4 weeks following my interview. Very unprofessional.
