Pros

Sales far exceed capacity at the Huntsville location. Other US Kohler operations are run well enough to have pride in where you work.

Cons

The staff culture is different than I'm used to in professional settings. Typical norms aren't in place here, such as responding to in-person requests, reading emails, attending interviews on time. Even little things like an email signature or being dressed for professional work. I spoke to perhaps ten staff members about where they had worked previously, how long they had been at Huntsville, etc. None inferred that they prefer the culture at Kohler vs. their last company. A few were feebly optimistic that the site was capable of making a positive change.

Pros

It is a good place to build your resume. They will let you grow your skillset, and interact with and learn from people one or two levels above you. You will be able to find alternative employment for a much higher wage after a few years of working at Kohler.

Cons

Once you grow your skillset, don't expect a promotion for it. There is an entirely different system for promotions, and it is off the books. They will make excuses to promote whoever it is that they want to. They will make excuses to not promote whoever it is that they don't want to. They will spend millions on new equipment, but claim "there isn't enough money to give raises". Or they will claim "sales are down, so we cant give raises", whether or not you have any influence over sales or decisions made. Then they will promote somebody who actually does influence sales enough to contribute to their decline.

Pros

Kohler does a great job at hiring good people; the co-workers make some of the cons bearable. A lot of the employees I've had the opportunity to work with are talented and motivated. In addition, the Kohlers (the family owners) care deeply about the quality of the products being produced by their company.

Cons

Poor interdepartmental communication and politics. Lots of trudging through middle management to get things accomplished. There's a definite culture of "favorites" in terms of advancement. Kohler prides itself on "gracious living" but doesn't focus that energy inward on culture and benefits.
