Good flexibility, opportunity to make connections with people in department, opportunity to continue work even after I graduated, and opportunity to be involved on a project that is important to me.

Cons

Pay is not very competitive, no benefits, et cetera - but this is just freelance work I do in addition to other full-time work/graduate school, so I can't complain too much.
