Could be a lot better, some senior people need to move on...
Pros
Affordable Benefits - Full Medical, Dental, Vision (union only, salary personnel has very high priced benefits).
Cons
Lowest paid maintenance personnel in WNY, shop around. No career advancement. Management. 90 Day waiting period for benefits. Continuous manpower shortages, forced overtime and many 12 to 16 hour shifts with scheduled to return in less than 8 hours, including supervision. Lucky to get a single weekend day off, many junior personnel have tues/wed off, don't expect a holiday off. No money for parts or equipment upkeep, everything is an emergency fix. No formal equipment training program in any department, supervisors and operators learn through tribal knowledge or osmosis. Seems to be a an on the job training facility for the entire area, people come and go often at all levels. Offshift differential near non existent, should be a percentage, other plants in town have automatic 1.5x and 2x pay on weekends, none for salary personnel. Weak Union, only shows up for negotiations. Skilled labor not fairly compensated, unskilled catching up with continuous flat rate across the board raises, skilled labor out numbered, thus union contracts reflect many decisions based on numbers. Senior personnel are awarded too many days off, while lower must take the hit to make up for it. Continuously let a lot of good talented people go, a revolving door, avg 5-10 mechs a year come and go, would be higher, if they could hire more. Union workers expected to buy own tools and boots with annual reimbursements that barely pay for a single tool or even a half a boot. Continuous uniform sshortages There are simply many other better facilities to work, especially if you have a skilled trade, it just will not be appreciated here.
