Pros

Located in one of the best small cities in the Country. You can be paid in the mid range of similar professions within government offices in the state and still live in an special city. The government setting is very collaborative and due to the location has established a strong and talented IT group.

Cons

The challenges of local government seem to revolve around the elected official structure. It is very difficult to have clear leadership when you have multiple elected and political figures. The power struggles and conflict between units creates a very dysfunctional work environment for leadership and is often difficult to find a clear vision. The retirement benefits are fairly weak.

Pros

benefits and the people who actually do the work

Cons

to many "retired on the job" managers - collect big salaries - do nothing.
