Pros

The underlying core function of what Learnosity do is admirable, helping bring education to people who may not ordinarily have access. Genuinely diverse workforce, though strong ‘old white dudes’ vibe on the senior leadership team Away from leadership, there are some really nice people working there who really do want to make awesome things/make things better.

Cons

There is a massive clique at the centre of the company comprising uninspiring, immature ‘leaders’ who’re clinging desperately to roles they’re either not qualified for or are overwhelmed by; they slate each other in private and then make nice in public - horrifying to witness. We have lost some truly awesome people in the last year or so. The way they treated some of those people as they left was shockingly bad - offboarding experience should be as important as onboarding. Good leaders/managers/staff in general leave pretty soon after joining - it’s never the companies fault. Leadership don’t accept culpability/responsibility; come to us with solutions, not problems - difficult when you yourselves are the problem! Didn’t know this until i left/it was pointed out to me; nearly every manager there is in his/her/their first ever management role? Read back through past reviews and see the trend around leadership and it all starts to make sense. The couple of decent managers I worked with have now also left (one of which’s team is virtually all leaving/has left as a result!) Insistence on merging the two companies despite little visible/tangible benefit for either side and at the expense of more important work (constantly working around tech debt) Every time there’s a negative glassdoor review there’s a ‘5 star’ review to offset & an internal hunt to find out where it came from/repercussions - heard this via others but I waited till i’d left before posting to be safe! Half of the leadership team are lifelong friends of the founders - similarly, if you avoid flagging problems & your face fits, you seem to get put into positions way above your competency (learnt about ‘the Peter principle’ after leaving and very much in effect here) They bought another company last year and are forcing a merge despite the cultures being worlds apart and the parent company barely holding together as it was No autonomy in engineering; leadership team decide both what we’re doing and how we do it - if you design something they’d do differently you’re going to have to change it. Closed shop at the top of engineering; too many of them built the core tech concepts so you can’t get them to let go now; the same few people who built it then are still trying to hold onto control which makes it impossible to scale No real development in the product; feature work is done at customer request but our product team have no vision for what they want it to be beyond ‘themes’; worst thing we did was get a marketing team last year to help - company is currently positioned as #1 but that’s more to lack of competition and they’re a sitting duck for someone to come and usurp them. No time to breathe, like being in constant crunch mode with PM’s getting flogged and passing it on. Golden handcuffs for the people who’ve been here forever - they moan about the company/how we work but they don’t/won’t leave? Toxic, political, backstabbing - just yuck culture now. Took me a few months to see it but it’s there. There’s a lot of talk about culture but there isn’t any consensus on what the company culture is/should be; they lose an awful lot of people (voluntarily) during probation because it’s not as advertised (again, always the employees fault) Pay rises are a lottery depending on who you report to/who’s with the ‘in crowd’ All the ‘people people’ have left/are leaving, replacements are ‘bums on seats’ with CEO proud of ‘how many we’re going to hire’ and seemingly ignorant of the fact that throwing average people at this mess is only going to make it worse. Engagement survey results were covered up/not properly shared with us ‘grunts’; even managers got a filtered/tailored view (again, can’t admit fault) Constant “things will get better” propaganda without any sort of plan/strategy as to how that will happen.

Pros

- Great people to work with day to day, people genuinely care about each other and about the work they do - Exciting technology, well-architected environment - Very competent engineering team - Plenty of good beer

Cons

- C level of management creates a toxic culture, lack communication and leadership skills - C level preaches about company values, but don't live those values themselves - Direction changes from week to week, one week we focus on this, the next we throw it out of the door and focus on the complete opposite - Established leadership is inexperienced and incompetent. Sadly all of the more experienced and competent leaders that have been hired over the past few years have left as the established leadership does not genuinely support positive change. - Lack of recognition and appreciation from C level - Salaries were frozen during Covid, while product usage was at never before seen heights. There was no financial need to freeze the salaries.

Thanks for taking the time to post your review. We are sorry to hear about this. We believe in our values "Live to Learn" and we see this feedback as an opportunity to evaluate what we can do better. As we are currently going through a significant period of growth, we are growing our leadership teams, welcoming new members. This will add more capabilities to the teams and put us in a strong position to enable us to achieve our strategic objectives, without losing the focus on our people and our culture. This includes constantly focusing on how we can improve how we plan, communicate and collaborate. We are also investing heavily in increasing our leadership capabilities with the implementation of the Learnosity Leadership Academy, where all our leaders at different levels of the organisation are receiving leadership coaching and development. We would love the opportunity to share more information with you on these initiatives. Let us know if you would like that by contacting us on people@learnosity.com Best regards, The People & Culture Team

Pros

Liked my team, lovely, nice, capable people. We were in ‘it’ together Liked what we did from a high level My manager (was awesome - left now so not sure that’s a pro any more?), as was his manager (again, until the former left then everything went awry) We had people from all walks of life/diversity was great (leadership team aside) Some nice people who are trying to do good things (typically on the teams - the ‘grunts’ so to speak)

Cons

I hate writing this as I genuinely loved the place and the people for the first 6-12 months I was there but despite so many people telling them what’s wrong it doesn’t get through so have to feedback somewhere they can’t just sweep it under the carpet (though if rumours are true - and look for yourself, it seems they are - a few 5 star reviews will be written soon to smudge this out) All the talk of culture; people there long term miss the old days, people there short term are busy looking for new jobs. Lots (relative) of people leave during probation. Leadership can’t take criticism - even some of the glassdoor reviews appear to be fake? There’s a 5 star systems engineer review from Feb and only one of our Systems Engineers had been there anywhere near that long & they would definitely not be handing out 5 stars (they’re also leaving I understand)? Entire team from when I joined the company (less than 2 years) has resigned; lost two managers (both awesome) & everything went to ruin after the second one left. How do you lose 8+ people from one team and not see the issues? ‘Blind’ senior leadership who won’t hear criticism or wash over it with “don’t worry, we’re fixing it” without any explanation of how. Knee jerk/reactive ‘planning’ - today we go left, tomorrow we go right, the day after, let’s wait and see. The best people have already left and the trend is ever downward - I genuinely don’t know how you turn it around with the people in charge. I’d quote something my manager said here but I was already insulted/accused of leaving because he’d “effectively talked me into it” (seems unimaginable I used my own brain to make the decision?) Hiring is scattergun with no consistency - feels very ‘bums on seats’ One of our owners visited the office for the first time since pre-covid last year; despite there being <15 people in the office and him walking past multiple times, he was still too important/me too unimportant to even say hello to? Don’t need pats on the head but just felt very cliquey. Backstabbing/political stuff going on; never really saw this until my manager left, but then witnessed them try to character assassinate him - opened my eyes to where this was/has happened elsewhere (made my mind up that it was time to go) Anyone exceptional left as they stood out and were pushed out - don’t know if from jealousy, malice or they just got frustrated at incompetence around them? Management have a very ‘them & us’ approach; we’re there to do their bidding but there’s little trust for the engineers - they have to own/design everything? “Too many do-ers and not enough work enablers“ was a line I heard/agreed with? It’s getting worse, not better; I was upset when my manager left but two of our leaders put the boot in saying he was ‘impatient’ & ‘unrealistic’ for leaving as nothing could be sorted that quick/things would be fixed soon; given the rest of the team has now left because it’s got so much worse I think we know where the problem really lies? So many people quit without another role lined up - they just want/need to get out. A lot of the people left are either paid too much (based on what they say, they can’t get the salary elsewhere) or have been promoted to a level where they think they’re too important to leave maybe? People are flagged/marked as ‘negative’ if they feedback/complain/try to make things better; largely kept to myself/my reporting line but seeing people you like get afflicted by this is horrible. On-call; goes with the territory, but often for things 1-2 people maximum know how to fix in the company and often a result of tech debt we never got chance to fix as we’re doing constant releases/re-releases for the previously failed one. Will stop here as could write a lot more - just SO glad I got out of there, place had eroded my self confidence to the point I felt I couldn’t leave!

Thank you for your review. I am sorry to hear about how you feel. We take this feedback seriously and we would appreciate the opportunity to further discuss this with you to better understand the areas we can improve. We look into promoting different ways for our people to share their thoughts and we care about what they have to say. Some of the avenues we have to name a few are: Engagement Surveys, Coffee with the Founders, 1:1 meeting with managers and Exit Interviews. As we grow as a business, we are bringing new people, not only into our leadership teams, but at all levels of the organisation to increase capabilities and ensure we are equiped to grow while maintaining and improving the things that make Learnosity a nice place to work. We appreciate that change can be challenging and unsettling at times and we are working hard to get better at managing change, as we grow and evolve as a business. If you wish to have a further discussion about this, please contact us on people@learnosity.com Best wishes, The People & Culture Team
