Pros

Laid back atmosphere Great for high school/college students who are sports enthusiasts Great employee discount 40% Easy to move up to store management

Cons

Crazy amount of employee turnover due to poor pay Lack of qualified individuals for job openings due to, once again, poor pay As a manager you are asked to do everything in the store from stock to administrative to sales Long hours and lots of overtime when the staff is shorthanded, which is usually is Fluctuating overtime means you make less during overtime hours than you would during normal workweek Upper management has very little regard for those under them Virtually no benefits Company has no sense of corporate paternalship

Pros

Employee discount is about it. Maybe the free shirts that employees get to wear instead of the standard polo shirt. Monthly bonus for management if sales met or exceeded.

Cons

Pressure to sell. Focus on overwhelming with customer service, pushing extras on customers. Basically if you can't upsell, you are no good to them. No Raises. Us and them mentality between store employees and district management/corporate.

Pros

Easy entry level management. Employees can enter the retail world easily here and find out rather quickly if this line of work is for them. 40% off at Lids and Journey's. Opportunities to build your own team from scratch. Embroidery can be fun.

Cons

Sigh. Too much micro managing. No schedule flexibility. The company hires DSMs from the outside all the time so managers have to listen to people who don't even know how to run the register. When there are good managers they must jump through so many hoops to move up it isn't funny. Inventory responsibility is squarely on the shoulders of the mgr but the system is so outdated. There aren't even packing slips in boxes of shipment. We are just supposed to trust the DC. Turnover rate is way too high since the pay scale is so low. The company refuses to spend money, wether its for a remodel, pay raise, extra security measures, an extra register. Most stores have only one register! The higher ups don't take criticism well, even if it is constructive.
