Pros

Working as a studio manager for Lifetouch gives me a great opportunity to gain experience that another employer will consider serious experience. I can take what I have done with Lifetouch to find something better.

Cons

Not enough training to manage a studio and a staff of 5-10 with a high traffic flow. They have a labor model to follow that is about impossible to be succesful with. Managers have to be the associate, photographer, sales person, and managing comes in where you can fit it in. It is also a high turn over retail business and recruiting/training is very important on top of all the above. If you go over your labor hours (labor spent vs. how many sits/sales you have=profit) then you will be nagged by your Field & Regional manager who have the ultimate decision to keep you on or not. STRESSFUL!

Pros

You will gain a lot of experience in many different work areas. You get photography experience, sales experience, customer service experience, people skills etc. From this job you can gain experience for future management positions, photography positions and sales positions. It can be extremely rewarding. If you have a passion for photography this is a great place to start.

Cons

Your satisfaction will depend greatly on the specific people you work with and for. When I first started there it was with a very positive staff environment and I always left with a smile. Changes in staff and management have made it a nightmare. It is imperative that you have a passion for this job, because if you don't it is not worth it. If you are lucky your managers will be positive and encouraging and will appreciate you. But you may end up with the opposite.
