Pros

Some of the students are awesome kids who work hard. During summer, can expect a regular 30-40 hrs/week. Some of my coworkers have been amazing people. Generous breaks (15-mins every two hours, hour-long lunches). Centers are all by-design and it's easy to transfer almost anywhere. Paid training, often lots of downtime or easy office tasks.

Cons

Schedule completely flips during school year; drops from 40 down to 5-10 hrs/week for most. Will never know schedule until Fri afternoon prior to that work week. Company will be reluctant to change from seasonal status. Benefits are terrible. If your CD is psychotic or under-qualified (happens often) ... work will be difficult. Most centers all-female: drama and pettiness. Some clients are intellectually-disabled and violent. Company will not defend you in any way or form. Trained to not defend yourself and to "let it go" and get over it. Many staff members unreliable and schedule always changing; your schedule may change mid-week. Don't expect a raise - you get what you get.

Pros

The company climate is extremely positive and supportive. Everyone is kind to the children who are tutored and also to each other. A lot of support is given to new employees to improve skills. An atmosphere of success for students and clinicians is conducive to everyone learning and feeling satisfied. The full-time employees are very dedicated to doing whatever it takes to help children learn and improve reading skills.

Cons

You have to be prepared to learn the Lindamood-Bell techniques and keep trying to improve them. At times it is overwhelming to be expected to learn so much in a short amount of time. It is very intense work, and the pay does not reflect the educational level of most employees, who have either a bachelor's or master's degree.

Pros

The kids can be quite charming and they seem to make improvements.

Cons

The administration is terrible and you end up working with kids that need more assistance than you can give.
