Pros

Not difficult to become a contractor. Good pay. Can work very few hours, very infrequently, or both, and stay employed. Flexible schedule.

Cons

Work is not always available. Can be extremely boring and repetitive. Pay is only once a month (hours billed at end of month, pay received about a month later)

Pros

Some places can be a very laid back atmosphere leaving you with little stress. Even the work load can, sometimes, be very light.

Cons

No respect from higher ups (i.e. corporate) and pay is laughably low. No performace reviews will ever be made which then leads to NO RAISES unless you are given a promotion. Promotions are few and far between and, even with a promotion, you shouldn't expect more than a dollar raise from them. Requesting a raise is almost always met with a nice corporate level of antagonism. Corporate will come around on occasion and brag about Lionbridge making such and such amounts of money to you (usually in the millions) and not mention rewarding you, the backbone of the company, with any kind of compensation. Ridiculous and MANDATORY system called the "Plus One" where you are required to improve the work place in some way. Sounds good on paper and is apparently a great selling point for the company, but is mandated to be done every WEEK. Good luck finding ways to improve your work place once a week when you have been around for more than a couple months. Oh, and should you miss a couple Plus Ones, you are given a warning followed by being let go.
