Pros

I feel so incredibly lucky to have stumbled across LiveRamp. Very few of my friends outside of LiveRamp after graduating found jobs that they ended up loving or even being satisfied with. When I was looking for jobs after graduation, I did apply to Google and Twitter and some other well-known companies. I had my heart set on a startup though. Why? Because I wanted to be part of a small team trying to do something really big. I wanted to be able to contribute in a multitude of ways using and build and broad range of skills. I did an interdisciplinary major at school partially because I didn't want to be tied down taking one type of class and honing only one set of skills. I felt the same way about choosing a career. I wanted flexibility to try different things out and build a lot of different skills. When I interviewed at other companies, big and small, I didn't feel that these other opportunities would let me do more than my chartered position. I didn't know for sure if I would be able to do that at LiveRamp either. However, when I interviewed, I met people who went above and beyond just engineering and took responsibility for running game nights and movie nights or writing our engineering blog. I guess it just came down to feeling like it was the right fit. And since then I've been so lucky to have the opportunity to move around different departments and contribute to so many different aspect of LiveRamp. I feel like I'm still one of the few amongst my friends who actually loves coming to work every day.

Cons

You have to be able to manage your work life balance. No one is going to tell you what hours you have to be in the office or how long you should spend working every day. It's pretty easy to get burnt out because you will keep getting more responsibility until you say that you can't handle the work load. Therefore, it's up to you to make sure that you integrate your work life and outside work life in such a way that you can maintain a sustainable lifestyle. It's incredible having so much freedom and responsibility, but it also means that you have to diligently beware of overextending yourself. People at LiveRamp definitely work hard, but I don't think there is the expectation that anyone should be working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Most of the pressure people feel here, and I know that I feel, is driven by what I want to accomplish and the fact that there just aren't enough hours in the day to do all of the things I want to do.
