Pros

Lockton is truly run as a meritocracy, work hard and you are rewarded accordingly. Compensation is competitive. There is a strong push that culture matters and management does make an effort to correct it if it veers off course (albeit that sometimes may take bit). Lockton is a great place to work if you don't mind hard work. You will grow if you want to grow, but I will stress the growth is realistic, there are no promotions via attrition, because you will fail. Do the job before you get the job. This is a flat organization, the manager you report to reports to the COO, there is just nowhere to hide. Clients, community, and associates are the focus and Lockton does better than average competitors to always keep this in mind. In 2017 we logged more than 70,000 community services hours among our offices in honor of our 50th anniversary. There are great perks like beer Fridays, competitive 401(k) match that is fully vested on day one, a Rolex after 10 years, remote work one day per week, and paid volunteer time.

Cons

Lockton is a franchise like system, almost, meaning that there are several series group offices across the country and each series has the autonomy to run their offices as they see fit. There are many positives to this structure and it is what leads to many of the benefits above, but there are also cons. There is not consistency among culture even between offices in the same series, albeit this is something management realizes and is trying to correct. Training is something they are continuing to work on and have made significant improvements on over the last 3 - 6 months in the SE, so maybe this will soon move to a pro. The teams are extremely competitive with a lot of Type A personalities moving at an extremely fast pace, which can be great, but can also be trouble if the manager is not engaged and monitoring/correcting culture. Like any company, a good manager is everything and at least Lockton is plentiful in those. All in all, Lockton is a great place to come if you want to be challenged every day, work hard, learn a ton, and rise up the ladder. Every place will have its cons, to me the cons don't come close to outweighing the pros and I truly do love the company.

Pros

I came from one of the large public brokers and Lockton has been a great fit for me. It combines the best of being large enough to have amazing resources to service clients but with private ownership (much less bureaucracy). As far as account servicing, they free you up to actually focus on your clients, not compliance and other internally focused uses of time. The Charlotte office also has a really strong culture and even has a committee that focuses on employee engagement (i.e. training / development, social activities, community service etc.).

Cons

We're a little short on the number of conference rooms within the office, but that has been a result of growth. Not a bad "con" to have...

Pros

The danger money helped .

Cons

When your boss is replaced its time to get a proper job. PS How many Associates does it take to screw in a light bulb? Answer five. One to fire everyone near the light bulb when it went out. One to hire an Associate who knows which way to turn a bulb. One to fire the Associate when the bulb has been done up. One to hire a new team who can be fired when the bulb goes wrong again. One to write a leaned book on how to arrange delay-in-screwing-up an electric light bulb insurance.
