Decent Place to Work as a Developer but Needs Improvement

Pros

Management has a true open door policy. Encouragement from architects to be involved in technical planning discussions. Lots of folks have been here for a long time. Good work/life balance.

Cons

Very tight with resources - penny wise and pound foolish at times. All work done in VMs and not enough memory/CPU so spending time waiting on tools a lot. Way too conservative on technology update - still using an SCM tool from the 90s. Some of the conservatism is coming from employees who have been there a long time. Career opportunities and feedback in employee reviews are almost non-existent. Pay increments are roughly keeping pace with inflation.

Pros

Great team and colleagues. Individual office. Flex time. Work life balance.

Cons

Outdated technology. Building and facilities must improve. Poor Performance Evaluation system. Made employee sign agreement to repay recruitment fees if he/she chooses to leave before a year of employment. Passive aggressive supervisor who beats around the bush. Not willing to embrace newer technologies and methodologies.

Pros

The majority of the people are very nice and are knowledgable.

Cons

There is absolutely no room for growth but you will be told that you will be advancing. They don't offer additional training outside of what you bring in so there is no opportunities to go up or improve yourself. The office can be very catty. There are no raises or bonuses given and you have to be with the company an absurd amount of time to receive more vacation time.
