Pros

The facility is climate-controlled, making it a comfortable place to work year-round and the hourly workers there were a pleasure to lead.

Cons

If you're the type of person who likes coming up with new ideas and actually having the freedom to try them, this probably isn't the place for you. In my experience, there was a lot of corporate red tape, and it often felt like your hands were tied when you were trying to do your job. They asked for feedback, but a lot of the time it felt like the decision had already been made and it was going to be done "the Lutron way" no matter what. Most of the leaders I worked with at the plant were good people, but it often seemed like they didn't have much authority because so many decisions had to go through corporate. I also felt like HR had input on a lot of decisions that didn't seem like HR issues, which got frustrating very quickly. During my six years there, I had three different plant managers, four different operations managers, and a rotating door of shift supervisors. Those were the numbers from my experience, and prospective employees can decide what they mean for themselves. One of Lutron's core principles is "Take Care of the People." In my opinion, it felt more like a slogan than something that was consistently put into practice. The company would do things like pizza lunches and employee appreciation events, but those weren't the things that mattered most to the people I worked with. After I left, several members of my team reached out asking if I knew of job openings elsewhere, which reinforced my impression that a lot of people were ready for a change.

Pros

Good people, smart coworkers, campus setting.

Cons

Management is oppressive and tries to offload work without success. Some positions allow lots of free time to “take a break”, “relax”, “focus on yourself” while other positions don’t allow time to go to the bathroom or get a drink of water. Some positions allow quick ranking within the company despite competence, other positions take advantage of skills and keep you stagnate.
