Pros

MIT is a wonderful place to work in many ways - good people, many opportunities to grow as an employee AND as a person.Very generous with vacation time and holidays. Good dental and medical options.401k matching (just a little, but it helps and is appreciated)

Cons

The real bugaboo at MIT is their pay scale. It's low, bordering on taking a step backward in one's salary history.

Pros

Fabulously stimulating place to work and to be. Adventurous, willing to take chances. Very good benefits (although that has eroded some with the changes in the US economy).

Cons

On the administrative side, you can take chances but risk losing trust and access if anything goes wrong. Extreme stratification in wealth, increasingly reflecting US and world economy. Raises at senior level can approach 20% a year while 3% is allocated for rest. The usual, "We're adults; employees act like children" attitude among senior managers -- although management teams are often the most infantile in how they conduct themselves.
