Pros

Many smart, well-educated employees with an interest in applying their skills to solve difficult and complex problems. The opportunity to work with them with minimal bureaucracy is often the most satisfying parts of the job. Also, numerous opportunities to build or strengthen skills, technical and business, if this is of interest to employees.

Cons

Salaries, as mentioned in many other reviews, are often times lower than industry. How pay and raises are determined across groups and the wider organization is somewhat unclear, although there are efforts underway to apparently address some of these concerns. Likely some tweaks will be made. Will be interesting to see how effective these changes can be.

MITRE Response

As you mentioned, we recently implemented a new performance and development process at MITRE that we believe will address employees’ concerns and questions about salary determination, promotions, and growth. We are sometimes unable to move with the speed and agility that we would like to due to contractual delays. We understand that this can be frustrating for staff, and we will continue to encourage our managers to make every effort to expedite our initiatives.

Pros

Easy work, tons of remote telework, all government contracts so the work isn't hard. Decent infrastructure.

Cons

Average age of company is around 50...and I am not kidding. Unless you are 50+ and have a PhD not many people will listen. Just suck it up, take the good pay and telework a lot. No bonuses, confusing business model. If you don't like a project you simply leave it for another....at any time. Not sure how clients feel about that though.

Pros

Lots of autonomy, interesting work, working in the national interest. Working with smart, passionate people. Good work life balance. Within the Centers there is the ability to move around.

Cons

Asked to do cutting edge work for industry standard salary and benefits. Doesn't seem like there's much project growth in Bedford, MA. Emphasis seems to be on DC area.
