Pros

I have enjoyed the people I work with directly, mostly non-executive employees. Sometimes the work is important, impactful, and interesting.

Cons

The work is incredibly unstable - in just a few years of employment, I have had three projects pulled out from under my feet, leaving me in a panic to find work. Project matching is atrocious - people get pulled onto projects they are not qualified for (myself included), and people who are qualified are left high and dry to seek out projects themselves very frequently. Work is word of mouth, and having to network your way into jobs at your job is exhausting. HR and the C-Suite are a hot mess too. The CEO finds new ways to degrade and offend employees every time he opens his mouth, insulting the leadership and people skills of technical staff and degrading and demeaning people who work from home regularly. There is no communication from the highest levels of the company - they make major decisions on the fly with no warning and no consultation with employees. In response to complaints about lack of transparency, the CEO made a podcast….yeah. This culture trickles down into some other areas of the company as well. Instead of making a plan for returning to the office, say, Monday and Wednesday, center leadership uses vague and passive aggressive language to encourage more in-person interaction. Saying “let’s come into the office more, we are a hybrid team, not a remote team” is not a leadership strategy. Take some responsibility. No one is coming into the office to take meetings from Teams and not interact with anyone - Department Heads need to make a plan. HR also seems disorganized and overwhelmed, having messed up my retirement contributions, onboarding, etc. I’m sad because I had heard nothing but good things about this company - and again, many of the people I work directly with are great - but since the pandemic, this company has been rotting from the top down.

Pros

Interesting complex work, great colleagues, good benefits. Pay slightly better then comparable government roles.

Cons

Senior leadership is laser focused on revenue growth at all cost and nothing else. The leadership pretends to care about the company mission and impact but it’s all about about getting more money from government and taxpayers. There is Zero interest in the actual work and quality of the work delivered being delivered to government sponsors. Only people rewarded with above average performance review are business folks that “bring” in high revenues but technical staff asked to execute on same work are completely ignored.
