Pros

MITRE is a good place to work if one needs a work-life balance, is at an advanced stage of his/her career (near retirement) or wants job security.

Cons

MITRE is not a good fit for career-focused employees. Promotion rates are slower at MITRE than at for-profit companies. Pay for performance is nonexistent: salary increases are very small (1.5% salary increase is budgeted for 2012).

Pros

- Generous 401k match after 1 year

Cons

- Hemorrhaging headcount. Indiscriminate firing of ~3,500 employees between January and December 2025 because their sole customer (the US Government) doesn't see value in FFRDCs. - Government is largely correct in their assessment that MITRE is overpriced for the low-impact, policy paper and systems engineering work that it primarily does. - Completely tone-deaf leadership. CEO waddles out in a gee-whiz, howdy-doody impression during all-hands every other month before announcing another round of layoffs. Board member bizarrely recited poetry and cried during an all-hands. Senior VPs regularly send emails to 1,000s of employees boasting about their frequent travel to Hawaii and Europe while lamenting 100s of people losing their jobs over the same period. - No plan or vision to adapt to reality.

Pros

Good benefits (Healthcare, 403b match, etc) Rank and file are mostly great to work with Great Intellectual Property/Training Opportunities/Reference Material

Cons

Throw aside what is going on right now with the new administration because that's every contractor. This company has been rotting for 3+ years now. Fmr CEO Jason Providakes et al. absolutely set up this place for failure. Horrible C-Suite (Censor then remove Slack to punish employees), an incompetent HR department that treats employees like garbage (let's work Labor Day against MA state law), bloated VP level management (IR&D for stuff sponsors don't want). Good Growth Strategy (Enginuity, etc.) led to no new revenue streams. Feel bad for Mark Peters because his honeymoon period is rocked by losing 20-30% of employees. He actually seems like a decent CEO. So much obsolete talent - too many PhDs that only thrive in an environment like MITRE. RTO policy is a total joke - McLean is empty most days and don't even know if badge swipes are tracked. This place probably needs to re-charter away from FFRDC and find "clients" instead of "sponsors" for survival. Oh, and the Board of Trustees does nothing.
