      Once a world-class think tank, it has lost its way since 2000.

      Pros

      Outstanding commitment to public service, supporting all aspects of federal government. Still home to some of the most intelligent, experienced engineers in the world. Have not completely lost their role as premier systems engineers (architects) on the most complex, critical federal systems.

      Cons

      Management competencies and experience are notoriously under-valued, so those that have risen to executive leadership roles in the past 2 decades are fairly weak in these areas. Resulting in a significant degree of frustration across all levels of the staff. Their leadership doesn't understand their charter. As a result, they take work that doesn't require an experienced systems engineer, and are forced to compress their rates.

      Thank you for your feedback. Publications including the Washington Post and Boston Globe consistently rate MITRE as a top workplace. In developing their rankings, they survey our employees, who rate our leadership highly. While our senior-level executives are committed to an open door policy and encourage staff to escalate issues to them, we also have multiple avenues where employees can raise questions and concerns anonymously.

      Awesome Work Environment Smart Respectful Coworkers A lot of Opportunities to Excel / Plenty of Interesting Work

      Cons

      Limited by Congressional Spending, Red Tape / Beauracracy, -not a company specific complaint, since almost every company this size / in this space will have the same if not worse issues.

      lots of technology; variety of experts; work life balance; values employee education

      Cons

      lots of projects that probably won't see the light of day; visibility within company dependent on projects
