Pros

The employee benefits were great, and it was interesting and engaging work. Overall, it was a good place to work. I got more involved with the specific customer I advised versus corporate MITRE.

Cons

There was the expectation to stay connected to the corporation, but geography often present a problem. Also, advancement within the company was limited because it was top heavy.

Pros

MITRE has some of the most passionate, mission-focused employees I have ever worked with in my career. The benefits for retirement are exceptional. Senior management is very thoughtful and caring about the workforce. The combined talent of the workforce is impressive.

Cons

Benefits are great, but skewed in value towards those further along in their careers. Pay is fair when considering base pay includes what most private sector companies pay separately as bonus and is not at risk as long as you are performing and contributing as expected. Pay banding at MITRE can be limiting to promotions and percieved advancement for those who are junior in their careers. Unfortunately, MITRE is a federally funded research and development center and is at the whim of its constituent's sponsors and Congress' budget battles.

Pros

The benefits here are amazing. From the insurance, educational assistance, 401k matching etc. The work life balance is great and the wealth of knowledge and SME available is unbelievable. The access to industry leading professional journals and state of the art equipment is also great. Compensation is competitive and the MITRE institute training classes are very nice.

Cons

Personal growth here is very very slow. The way promotions are chosen is by the top %10 of AC Levels. Long story short, sometimes only 1 person overall well get a promotion per department based on your AC Level. Unless you are in the right department, work is scarce and you have to personally scavange for projects. MITRE was in the top 100 places to work for 10 years, then quickly fell.
